'Sonic Painter' is my 9th instrumental album. It pays homage to the matriarch in my family: my mother. My mom is a professional Fine Artist. Growing up, she fostered and encouraged a culture of creativity and art in our household. I would like to say she inspired me to the point that I became an artist also. Except, instead of painting using brushes, pens, or pieces of charcoal, I have opted to paint with sounds. The cover design for this album is one of my favorite paintings she has ever done: "Tsunami".

In December 2019, my mom suffered a pneumonia, stroke, and heart attack in rapid succession. It led to a grueling 45 day stint in the hospital, most of that she was intubated in the ICU (during the holiday season nonetheless). As one may imagine, this was a very stressful and grueling time period for my entire family. But it laid the groundwork and inspiration for this album. During her stint in the hospital, 50% of the days I wasn't sure if she was going to make it. I recalled a past principle: an ongoing feeling of mortality, as I experienced while creating 2016's 'Before The Bough Breaks'. And I realized I wanted to collaborate artistically with my mother at least one more time while there was time. This album is that experience.

I hope you enjoy this project and what it stands for. As I write this, this is my most complete instrumental work to date.
